So why does alcohol play such a strong role in a celebration that is supposed to be spiritual?

First, the excitement of the season makes people feel like they should “enjoy life” to the fullest. For some, alcohol has become part of that enjoyment. They see harvest less as a church service and more as a festival.

Second, peer influence plays a big role. When friends and family members are drinking, it’s easy for others to join in, even if they know it doesn’t align with the purpose of the event.

Third, a mix-up between tradition and spirituality often shows. In many cultures, festivals are linked to food and alcohol. Some members unconsciously carry that mindset into harvest, forgetting that the focus should be thanksgiving to God.

Fourth, lack of discipline and self-control also comes in. Instead of seeing harvest as a sacred offering of gratitude, some treat it as an ordinary party.

Lastly, the social atmosphere makes harvest feel like a reunion. People come together to celebrate, catch up, and relax. In that environment, alcohol is seen as a normal addition.

But here is the real question: Does alcohol add any spiritual value to the harvest? If anything, it distracts from the true meaning — to glorify God and give thanks for His blessings.

Perhaps it’s time for Celestians to reflect on this habit and bring harvest back to its real purpose: worship, gratitude, and holiness.
