CCC Ifako 1 Parish in Ogba, officially welcomed a new shepherd on Sunday, May 11, 2025, following weeks of tension and speculation surrounding the leadership transition.
The new shepherd, Venerable Superior Evangelist (VSE) Eze Romanus, was transferred from CCC Warri Parish 1 to take over pastoral duties at Ifako 1. His arrival had been preceded by days of heightened emotions, persistent rumours, and visible police presence around the church premises.
Many church members had feared that the new appointment would be rejected by the local congregation. However, those concerns were put to rest during Sunday’s service, as the outgoing shepherd, VSE Solton, formally handed over leadership to VSE Romanus in a peaceful and cordial ceremony.
The handover took place in the presence of parishioners who had gathered in large numbers. Witnesses described the atmosphere as calm and joyful, with many expressing relief that the transition had concluded without incident.
“This is what we prayed for — a peaceful process,” said one longtime member of the parish. “Seeing both shepherds come together like this reassures us.”
Church elders and members welcomed the new shepherd with songs and prayers, signalling their readiness to support his leadership moving forward. With the transition now complete, the parish community is expected to refocus on spiritual growth and unity under its new shepherd.
No incidents were reported during or after the handover, and police presence has since been scaled back.
