During a discussion, V/S/E John Bada explained that the Superior Senior Elder (SSE) rank is a unique and exceptional position within the Celestial Church of Christ. He noted that it is the only rank without anointment, making it a reserved and highly respected office—similar to the bearers of old. The men who once held this rank were rare, disciplined, spiritually grounded, and deeply committed to church order.
He mentioned that only a few people today even know about these early SSEs. The late Baba Adefeso was among the most recognized, and though considered the most liberal among them, he was still firm, principled, and uncompromising in discipline. Others, like Baba Sanisatani (Baba Ogundipe), carried strong spiritual authority and were known for correcting errors instantly—even invoking spiritual warnings when necessary.
V/S/E John Bada emphasized that these SSEs never sat inside the altar wearing their yellow ileke uniforms. They respected the sacred boundaries of their office. Only those who later chose to move into the evangelist line advanced beyond that point. Their level of discipline and contentment made them difficult to replace in today’s church environment, where society has shifted and many no longer uphold the same spiritual values.
He also added—especially in his comments on Celestial Discuss—that the very first Agba Meje (male) elders of the National Headquarters, Makoko, were all accountants, educated men who began their journey as Akawe, not Onibode, contrary to what some online reports suggest. They had no connection to the Onibode line because they were elite and well-learned.
In concluding, V/S/E John Bada reminded that one does not need to sit on the altar to know or worship God. What truly matters is faith, honesty, obedience, and devotion. God moves among His people as He wills, and every believer should focus on worship and righteousness because everything in this world is temporary.
He stressed that obedience to God’s commandments is vital, as it is the pathway to His blessings and divine approval.
Scriptures affirm this:
– John 5:24 — Obedience leads to life and freedom from condemnation.
– John 14:15 — “If you love Me, keep My commandments.”
– 1 John 2:3–5 — We know we truly belong to God when we obey Him.
