Popular singer Sola Allyson has addressed a long-standing misconception about her music career, clarifying that she is not a gospel artist.
Speaking in an interview with Oyinmomo TV, Allyson explained that she has never used the label “gospel artist” for herself. She added that although her songs carry deep spiritual meaning, she doesn’t explicitly mention Jesus because, according to her, He doesn’t need publicity from her music.
In her words:
“I don’t sing religious songs. I don’t call myself a gospel artist. My name is Sola Allyson — I am simply a singer.”
The Eji Owuro singer also shared insight into her marriage, noting that she and her husband operate with an unconventional but intentional understanding. She revealed that while they are married, they don’t follow the traditional idea of “living under one roof” in a fixed way.
She explained:
“I am married, but we don’t live together in the way people expect. He stays in my home, and I stay in his. That’s the part of love older generations didn’t tell us is difficult. They made it look like love alone guarantees a smooth journey.”
Allyson stressed that their marriage is a partnership, not an ownership arrangement. She believes that saying a woman is “in her husband’s house” often implies possession.
According to her:
“My husband and I married each other; we belong in each other’s lives. Saying ‘I’m in my husband’s house’ gives men a sense of ownership, and I’m not competing with anyone.”
On the topic of feminism, Allyson described it as a call for fairness, not hostility toward men. She noted that early feminism was simply about ensuring women have the same opportunities and choices men enjoy.
She added:
“Feminism is not about saying men are bad. The original idea was that the freedom men have should also be available to women.”
