Like in many other Christian teachings/principles, I agree with Evang T. Aluko on this.
So many people are more religious than they can be Godly, which reflects where they came from. The never really left the world fire Christ. They only wanted to use Jesus as an alternative to idolatry.
Where they think result is not prompt in Christ, they’d revert to idolatry practise for the time.
