The atmosphere at the Celestial Church of Christ, Archdiocese, National Headquarters Cathedral, Makoko, Lagos, is one of reverence and deep reflection, as the congregation mourns the passing of one of its beloved leaders, Assistant Venerable Superior Evangelist S.O. Sowunmi.
Evangelist Sowunmi, who served faithfully as the Assistant Shepherd of CCC Makoko, peacefully transitioned to glory on the night of Monday, 7th July 2025. His departure marks the end of a life poured out in worship, service, humility, and unwavering commitment to the vineyard of Christ.
For many within the CCC family, Evangelist Sowunmi was more than a leader—he was a spiritual father, a counselor, a man of prayer, and an embodiment of discipline and godliness. His gentle demeanor and steadfast devotion inspired both young and old, drawing many closer to the heart of God.
As the church awaits further announcements concerning his burial arrangements, members of CCC Makoko are encouraged to keep the family and loved ones of the deceased in prayer. It is a time to honor his memory—not in sorrow alone—but in gratitude for a life well lived for the glory of God.
The scripture says in 2 Timothy 4:7, “I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” Truly, Evangelist Sowunmi finished well.
Though our hearts are heavy, we rejoice in the assurance that he now rests in the bosom of his Creator. May the Lord, whom he served so passionately, receive his soul and grant him eternal peace.
