A growing wave of concern has been raised within the Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) following reports that Senior Evangelist Peter Hunton allegedly charges N350,000 for spiritual deliverance, including the casting out of demons and familiar spirits.
In a public message released by the Celestial Reality Check (CRC), the fee was condemned as unbiblical and contrary to the teachings of Christ. Quoting Matthew 10:8, the group reminded the evangelist and the Church at large:
“Freely you have received; freely give.”
The statement acknowledged the rising trend of monetizing spiritual services but urged CCC leaders to stay rooted in Jesus’s divine mandate.
“Church of God is different from Church of man. Jesus gave us freely,” the message stated. “No one can control what others charge, but the calling of God should not become a business.”
More troubling for the CRC, however, is the alleged use of nontraditional and questionable spiritual items. According to the report, Senior Evangelist Hunton has been linked to the use of figurines (Omolangidi), lizard eggs, chicken eggs, and various powders during spiritual consultations—materials not sanctioned in CCC doctrine.
“Are we appealing to demons or negotiating with them?” the CRC asked bluntly, calling for a return to spiritual practices grounded in the Bible and the foundational standards of CCC, including the use of perfumes, candles, holy water, anointing oil, and the Ida (sacred sword).
Citing Philippians 2:9-11, the group emphasized that the power to heal and deliver lies in the name of Jesus, not in rituals or symbolic materials:
“If indeed you are a Prophet of God in this Church, the name of Jesus Christ will not disappoint you.”
The CRC concluded its message with a direct appeal:
“We hope you are making disciples for the Kingdom and not just profit for your bank account. If we can’t stand for something, we will fall for anything.”
The message, while pointed, reflects growing concerns across various quarters of the Church about accountability, spiritual purity, and the direction of leadership.
The CCC has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
