It is a common misconception that anointment is no longer a spiritual act; I have heard this many times. I didn’t hold individuals who said such a thing about anointment responsible because we can see it—even blind people can see it clearly—and we can read about it and observe it occurring in our surroundings. In the church, many are more interested in titles than in wisdom. Seeking anointment should be a way for someone to grow spiritually, both in terms of their relationship with God and as a blessing to others.
I have seen a cape elder brother who has no idea how to light the altar candle during service or can categorically tell us how many hymns we do render on Sundays. I have also seen a shepherd who has no idea what ingredients are needed to prepare sanctification water. This is so disheartening. The position has now turned to fashion and competition in the fold, rather than a competition where the kingdom of hell can be brought down with genuine service.
The work of anointment is to work according to the rank you collected! Anything in the rank of evangelist is for you to go into the world and preach the gospel; the rank you hold speaks to the task ahead of you. Some people will go for anointment and still go back to their sinful and fetish ways. In my own understanding, anointment is not spiritual unless there is a re-definition of the anointment process.
