The leadership of the Celestial Church of Christ (C.C.C.) has sounded the alarm over a growing online scam targeting church members across Nigeria and beyond.
According to an official statement issued by Superior Evangelist Kayode Ajala, Secretary of the Pastor in Council and Head of Media and Publicity for C.C.C. Worldwide, fraudsters have set up a fake online channel to deceive unsuspecting members who wish to register as church workers.
The scammers reportedly convince individuals to make payments under the guise of “registration fees.” Once money changes hands, the victims are issued workers’ registration numbers. However, the church clarified that these numbers do not exist in the official records of its administrative office in Ketu, Lagos.
The statement stressed that the only recognised and authorised process for becoming a registered church worker in the C.C.C. is to go through the church’s administrative office located at 1 Osikomaiya Street, Ketu, Lagos.
“Any member who attempts to register through these fraudulent channels does so at their own risk,” Evangelist Ajala warned. “Such individuals will not be recognised or accorded the rights and privileges of a legitimate church worker in the Celestial Church of Christ Worldwide.”
The church also urged its members to remain vigilant and avoid falling prey to individuals or platforms that promise quick or simplified online registrations. Members are encouraged to report any suspicious activities or solicitations to church authorities immediately.
This development comes at a time when many religious institutions in Nigeria and across Africa are facing an increasing number of cyber-related threats. With faith communities relying more on digital communication, church leaders emphasise the need for members to verify official information directly from trusted church offices.
The C.C.C. assured its members that efforts are ongoing to clamp down on those behind the fraudulent activities.
